Three classic route types

Suez Canal cruises are mostly repositioning trips between Mediterranean and Asia. They differ mainly in direction and stop programme.

Mediterranean → Asia (autumn)
01

Mediterranean → Asia (autumn)

Classic repositioning trip from Italy/Greece through the Suez Canal to Dubai or Singapore. 17–21 nights with stops in Athens, Limassol, Aqaba (Petra), Salalah, Muscat, Dubai. October–December – the fleet relocates to the Indian Ocean.

Asia → Mediterranean (spring)
02

Asia → Mediterranean (spring)

Return trip in March/April: Dubai or Singapore through the Suez Canal to Italy or Spain. 17–21 nights with the same ports in reverse order – popular with travellers who want to end in Europe.

Eastern Mediterranean & Red Sea
03

Eastern Mediterranean & Red Sea

Shorter routes 10–14 nights in the eastern Mediterranean with Suez transit and Aqaba stop – often with Petra shore excursion as highlight. Suitable for those who want the experience without the Asia connection.

Why a repositioning trip

Suez Canal cruises are not a mass route – but a rare opportunity to experience three continents in one trip.

01
Three continents, one trip
Europe, Africa and Asia – you cross three continents in a single trip. Cultural diversity, climate zone changes and the awareness of experiencing a connection between worlds otherwise only accessible by air.
02
Petra & Aqaba
From Aqaba port in Jordan, a day trip leads to Petra – one of the world's most spectacular archaeological sites. UNESCO World Heritage, new world wonder. This stop alone justifies the entire trip for many.
03
Many sea days – true relaxation
Suez Canal routes have above-average sea days – ideal to enjoy onboard programme, read, find peace. The Mediterranean–Asia transition offers calm seas, sunny weather and time for wellness.
04
Rare – once a year per ship
Repositioning routes are only offered 1–2× per year per ship. Whoever wants to be on board must book early. We know the seasonal calendar and reserve the best cabins in time.

Suez Canal – your questions

October–December (Mediterranean→Asia repositioning) and March–April (Asia→Mediterranean). The Suez Canal itself has 25–35 °C year-round, the Red Sea can be extremely hot in summer (up to 45 °C in Aqaba). Avoid June–August for this route.

17–21 nights for full repositioning routes Mediterranean–Dubai/Singapore. Shorter Eastern Mediterranean routes with Suez transit 10–14 nights. Due to the many sea days, these trips are more relaxed than similarly long Mediterranean routes.

MSC, Costa, AIDA and Cunard regularly run repositioning routes. Princess, Royal Caribbean, Holland America and NCL depending on season. In the luxury segment Silversea, Regent and Seabourn with smaller ships and longer Red Sea stays.

The Suez Canal itself is safe and heavily militarily protected. Cruise lines continuously monitor the Red Sea situation and adapt routes when necessary. In case of escalations, routes are temporarily suspended – you'll receive current information from us before and during booking.

Swiss passport: Egypt – visa on arrival possible (25 USD, easy), Jordan – free visa for cruise stop via Aqaba, Oman/Saudi Arabia – usually as group via cruise line, Dubai – visa-free (90 days). We provide a complete overview before booking.

From Aqaba port a 2-hour bus ride to Petra. The day trip is strenuous (10–12 hours with hiking in the heat), but the highlight of many trips. Definitely book a guided tour – either via cruise line or local provider (often cheaper and in smaller groups).
