Three routes, three perspectives

Scandinavia, the Baltics or themed capitals runs – the Baltic can be experienced in very different ways. We'll show you the main variants.

Scandinavia
01

Scandinavia

Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Oslo, Gothenburg. Clean, modern capitals, Scandinavian design, more affordable than you'd think. The Stockholm archipelago is one of Europe's most beautiful waterways.

Baltics
02

Baltics

Tallinn (Estonia), Riga (Latvia), Klaipėda (Lithuania), Gdańsk (Poland). UNESCO old towns, Hanseatic history, medieval city centres right at the quay. Culturally rich, surprisingly relaxed – and significantly cheaper than Scandinavia.

Capitals mix
03

Capitals mix

7 nights, 7 capitals: Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Tallinn, Riga. Ideal for first-time cruisers who want lots of city in a short time. Usually from Kiel, Warnemünde or Copenhagen.

When is the Baltic at its best?

The Baltic has a clear seasonal window: June to August bring long days, mild temperatures and full infrastructure in all ports.

Why the Baltic is the most relaxed city cruise

No other region brings so many capitals into one week. Short journey, short hops, metropolises right at the quay.

01
A few hours of travel time
Hamburg, Kiel and Warnemünde can be reached by train from Switzerland in 8–10h – no flight needed. Alternatively direct flights to Copenhagen, Stockholm or Helsinki in 2h. No jetlag, no long-haul stress.
02
Five capitals in a week
Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Tallinn, Riga: you breakfast in Sweden and dine in Estonia. The Baltic is the only region that passes so many capitals – trains or flights would be more expensive and more tiring.
03
Ports right in the city centre
Stockholm, Copenhagen, Tallinn, Helsinki: the ship docks in the middle of the city. No shuttle, no bus – you walk straight to the UNESCO old town, the opera house or the city museum.
04
No heat risk
Pleasant 18–24 °C even in high summer, evenings cool enough for walking. Ideal for anyone who finds the Mediterranean too hot or for older travellers.

Baltic cruises – your questions

June to August is peak season: 18–24 °C, long days (up to 19h daylight in Stockholm), all ports fully operational. May and September are cooler (12–18 °C), cheaper and noticeably quieter in the cities. Outside these windows there are hardly any cruises.

7 nights is standard for the capitals tour from Kiel or Warnemünde. 10–14 nights combine Scandinavia and the Baltics with deeper stops (e.g. Gotland, Bornholm, Visby). Short trips of 3–5 nights to Copenhagen or Oslo work as a taster cruise.

The main departure ports are Kiel, Warnemünde and Hamburg – all easily reached by train from Zurich or Basel in 8–10h. Direct flights from Zurich to Copenhagen (1h 45min), Stockholm (2h 15min) or Helsinki (2h 30min). We can organise trains or flights and transfers to the ship.

AIDA and TUI Cruises (Mein Schiff) with German-speaking service and a large fleet from Kiel/Warnemünde, MSC and Costa international, Holland America, Princess and Norwegian for US guests. Premium segment: Viking Ocean, Regent Seven Seas and Silversea.

On AIDA and TUI Cruises yes, throughout. On MSC partially (German crew, German menus). On US lines (Holland America, Princess, Norwegian) English is the on-board language – excursions are often available in German. We'll tell you in advance which ship fits your language level.

Scandinavia is expensive (lunch in Copenhagen from 25 CHF, Stockholm from 30 CHF), but quality is high. Many guests therefore eat on board and just have coffee or a light lunch on shore. In the Baltics prices are much lower – worth a proper meal ashore.

Absolutely. AIDA, TUI Cruises and MSC offer large kids' clubs and child-friendly excursions (Tivoli in Copenhagen, Vasa museum in Stockholm, Tallinn old town). Pleasant temperatures, short hops and capitals right at the quay make the Baltic ideal for families – often easier than the Mediterranean.
